The Duluth Montessori School Adolescent Program (AP Program) started in August of 2013 to meet the needs of children during this period of tremendous personal growth and change. The AP Program is the culmination of a child’s experience as a Montessori student.

We continue to nurture the love of learning for learning’s sake, a high level of independence and self direction and a comfort with collaborative work. The positive sense of belonging is supported through responsibilities that adequately match the capabilities of the adolescent, and through work that has a clear purpose.

In our program students are provided with core academic foundations in mathematics, language, foreign language (German), science, history and geography, as well as with exceptional personal growth experiences that include public speaking and presentations, micro-economy, community work and service, art, wood working, pottery and organic gardening.

In the AP Program adults and students work together in a community that is based on mutual respect and support. Teachers use a variety of teaching techniques in the classroom to accommodate different types of learners: lessons, lectures, seminars, group learning and discussions, independent research, hands-on activities and lab work. Because of this individualized teaching environment, teachers can expect students to be fully engaged in their learning.
