The Duluth Montessori School, with two campuses in the historic district of Duluth, Georgia, welcomes inquiring parents to visit. There’s nothing quite like visiting a Montessori classroom.

The first thing you’ll notice at The Duluth Montessori School is that our classrooms are inside and outside. Our sunny, spacious classrooms are situated in a beautiful natural environment of 11 acres, and our campuses include flower and vegetable gardens tended by the children themselves.

Inside, our classrooms are prepared environments, as described by the Montessori method. They are calm, orderly, and cheerful, with all learning materials placed at a child’s height. It’s a busy place, with children engaged in meaningful and purposeful work, either individually or in groups. The teachers, at first, may not be easy to spot. They don’t operate as the focus of the classroom. They are primarily observers, whose ultimate goal is to intervene less and less as each child grows. As Dr. Montessori explained, “Our aim is not merely to make the child understand, and still less to force him to memorize, but so to touch his imagination as to enthuse him to his innermost core.”

You might also observe children working on a community project they’ve initiated. It could be a search for heirloom trees in historic Duluth, Georgia, a seed collection to reforest a neighboring county’s clear-cut reservoir site, a recycling program, or a collection effort for needy families.
